Getting Started
Applicants pass through five stages before becoming Chimps teachers:
1. Basic Info: Sign up with Chimps Academy and fill in your profile with as much information as possible so we can review your application right away.
2. 1-1 Interview
3. Demo lesson: Carry out a full-length demo lesson with your future student.
4. Sign your contract, upload docs & complete background check.
5. Get ready to teach!
The contract is for a course of 32 lessons. Each lesson is 25-minute long. You may sign multiple contracts at the same time.
You can work with us from anywhere as long as you have a stable internet connection.
Well functioning equipment and supplies needed to teach classes include, but aren’t limited to, microphone (s), camera (s), computer (s) and an internet connection with adequate speed.
Recommended accessories:
A headset
A webcam or a high-quality built-in camera
A backup power supply and mobile hotspot in case you experience power outages or blackouts in your area
A backup device such as an iPad
A camera with a resolution of at least 2 megapixels is considered high-quality and well functioning
A blue or clear white-based light or light bulb that is positioned to shine a light on your face
Interview & Demo Lesson
The interview and demo lesson is significant because, along with your qualifications, it will help decide whether you are a good fit. It will also determine your initial payment.
You will be carrying out a demo lesson with your future student, whom we have paired you to. After you confirm the demo lesson, you will receive a preparation guidance email sent by our system. The demo lesson acts as a trial lesson to see if the student likes you or not before the contract is signed.
To win over the student’s (and parent’s) heart, you will need to display how well you are able to explain activities to a student, how you are able to teach and motivate them with positive energy, as well as showcase your ESL teaching skills and your time management. You will also have to assess the student’s English level to understand their English skill. Please make sure you take a look at the demo lesson slides in advance as this little bit of preparation can help significantly during the lesson.

Becoming a Teacher
All lessons are one-on-one to make sure you and the student have each other’s full attention.
Nope, our curriculum team has already designed materials for every lesson. However, teachers please prepare for class by reviewing the materials beforehand.
Yes. Teachers will be teaching the same student for a contract of 32 lessons (one course). Teachers may sign multiple contracts at the same time.
Payment
Total Per Hour : 8-15 USD
As independent contractors, you are responsible for your own taxes in accordance with individual tax jurisdictions or state laws.
Teachers are paid through their Payoneer account between the 1st and 5th of each month.
Chimps Academy signs 32-lesson (16-hour) contracts with applicants who pass their screening process and successfully match with the students. You can sign multiple contracts at the same time.
Lesson and Scheduling
Each lesson is guaranteed 25 minutes of active teaching time. After that, teachers may take a few minutes to leave comments. The total time commitment is 30 minutes per lesson, not including preparation time. Three minutes are also allotted for possible tech problems before a lesson is cancelled.
Chimps Academy is a professional online one-on-one English academy that aims to provide online English teachers with regular students and a stable teaching schedule.
Upon signing up, applicants have to set their availability for three months in advance so that Chimps Academy can match your schedules with the students’ schedules. After you are successfully matched with the students, your teaching schedules will be created on the system. We encourage all teachers to check their emails and their schedules daily.
Chimps Academy sets no limit on how much a teacher can teach – you have 100% control over your schedule. However, non-peak times may not be as popular amongst our students as they are not available for lessons (they are likely in school or asleep). Please also be advised that it can take up to a month to get a relatively steady stream of lessons, as students and parents get to know new teachers. We do our best to ensure that we are keeping you as busy as possible.
